Trust me, I’ve seen a LOT of slop on Amazon Prime and Tubi - I’d gladly take the SSU and DCEU movies in a heartbeat over those.

How do you feel about the performance of the film studio during your tenure?

We’ve had mostly very, very good results. Unfortunately, [Kraven the Hunter] that we launched last weekend, and my last film launch, is probably the worst launch we had in the 7½ years so that didn’t work out very well, which I still don’t understand, because the film is not a bad film.

If Kraven the Hunter is “not a bad film”, then I’m terrified to see what he considers a bad film.

1. Acquire a Blu-ray disc.
2. Insert disc in your computer’s optical drive.
3. Use MakeMKV to copy the contents of the disc into .mkv files.
4. ???
5. Profit!

Movie budgets usually don’t include the marketing costs, as that information is almost never revealed to the public. But to find out how much money a film would need to be profitable, a good guess is to multiply the budget by 2.5.

For example, a $100 million film would need to make at least $250 million to break even.

But this isn’t a hard-and-fast rule, as no one can really be certain of the marketing budget.

So, in total, Sony spent $485-509 million on all the films, and they have made a combined $2.1 billion.

The highest grossing SSU film was the first Venom movie, and they seem to have been chasing that high ever since. Their lowest-grossing movie (so far) is Madame Web.

So it appears that over time, the SSU movies have been making less and less money with each release (with the exception of Venom 3).

Sony was transparently making minimally viable products to keep the valuable IP rights.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think the SSU movies are part of their contract with Marvel. It only applies to live-action Spider-Man films (in which Spidey is the main character).

Which means that they had no obligation to make these movies, but still chose to do so anyway. They are making these villain spin-offs because they want to, not because they have to.

Just the thought of Sony making completely unnecessary villain movies, not out of any contractual obligation, but because they genuinely believe that they can ride the coattails of the MCU…to me that’s too funny to pass up.

My guess is they just revealed that he filmed some scenes for the movie. By the time we heard about it, they already completed filming.

Filming has already wrapped.

Good movies will do better in theaters

Not necessarily.

Just being a good movie isn’t a guarantee of doing well in theaters.

From this year alone, Furiosa, The Fall Guy, and Transformers One were all great movies that got stellar reviews, and they all flopped at the box office anyway.

Bring back movie pass!

REVIEW:

• I actually missed the first few minutes of the movie, but I made it just in time for the opening number and the title card. This was one of the most crowded theaters I’ve ever been to, I haven’t seen a turnout like this since Avatar: The Way of Water!
• The setting of Oz, with all of its magic and whimsy, was so…inspiring. The songs, the costumes, and in general the vibes…whatever this is called, I need more of this in my life.
• There was this part in the Emerald City sequence where these two women appeared on screen, and the audience cheered. I’m not familiar with the musical, so I’m assuming they are the actresses from the original.
• Glinda was such an unlikeable character at first, but I guess that was intentional to show her character development into the Good Witch of the North. So much Condescending Compassion towards Elphaba and pretty much everyone around her. Some of her comments got lots of laughs from the audience.

Overall? 8.5/10. My only complaint is that it felt too long, but still, highly recommended.

Wicked is one of the most popular Broadway musicals of all time. There’s been a lot of marketing for this film, and on other non-Fediverse social media platforms there’s been a lot of buzz and genuine excitement for this.

It’ll probably break even on the first film’s gross alone; Part Two’s gross will be pure profit.

Handbrake only converts an existing Blu-ray rip to a video format, it doesn’t rip DVDs and Blu-rays on its’ own.

You can install MakeMKV to rip your discs, then convert them to video files in HandBrake.

I agree with you, the damage has been done. That’s why I’m looking at alternative methods of transportation, like an ebike or public transit. Hopefully your area has good infrastructure for that.
