My brother set it up for my parents even though they don’t game. I just think he installed it because it as intuitive as Windows for lay people.

My parents love Bazzite.
Is Pop as good and generally user friendly for those less familiar with Linux? Never heard of Pop before!
Normally, I see any news on government blocking social media for any stated reasons as typically a cover for censorship. But with how Facebook and other social media morphed into something else, I could not care less if they are blocked.
Yes, but it is more about the cost. Games are pricey enough as they are. Why keep the games perpetually unplayed but then buy new ones and put them aside as well?
We can see how we can benefit from it, once most of the value it produces no longer ends in the owner class’es pocket.
Yup, indeed. Remember when social media was celebrated as what enabled bottom up revolution in the Middle East 1 ? Well, a lot of people forgot about that, since big brained profiteers realised they can commercial people’s personal data and sell them to entities that will weaponise the innate dark insecurities of the people to influence public policies.
1 I am aware that the Arab Spring largely failed, but so did the Revolutions of 1848. In spite of failures, I believe that the ideas have been planted and will be nurtured for future generations to reap. Even though the liberal revolutions failed in Europe, the liberal values they tried to champion are now in place in Europe. I believe the same will happen in the Middle East but it will take generations to materialise.

Say what you will about Will Smith, but his movie iRobot made a good point about this 17 years ago.
(damn I’m old)
“Vote with your wallets” is a common expression among Americans after all.
TFW when I rarely use Amazon anyway.
It probably depends what you’re looking for, but I find DDG to have fewer up-to-date results than Google.
Leta acts as a proxy to Google and Brave search
Great! As much as I love DDG, Google is unfortunately still superior and I had no choice but to suck it up and use the latter from time to time. If I could use Google by way of proxy to preserve privacy, then this is great news!
I can’t remember the details, but if I remember correctly, Firefox used to get a lot of cut from hosting Google’s ad. But Google cut that deal and Firefox lost 90% of its revenue as a result. That’s why I can’t blame Firefox for doing what they are doing at the moment.
Us users want services for free but we can’t have our cake and eat them in the current paradigm of the internet. That’s why we have to think outside the box and I advocate for a publicly funded internet. It is the same model as NPR and BBC and that is why they have little to no ads unlike private broadcasters. The same principle should be applied to the Internet if we want to keep using it for free.
We are still in a capitalistic. Money still prevails.
This is why I am an advocate for publicly-funded Internet, like how people fund NPR and BBC.
I don’t blame Firefox because at the end of the day, they are still a business and need to cover the operating cost. I blame the system that we’re in and the elites will tell you there is no other alternative.
I totally forgot it exists, meaning I thought it was already dead.
That is what I noticed. Everything these days require app to get shopping vouchers, book tickets, go in to your local gym, pay in store (we are being weaned off from using cash) etc.
When Gabe dies, sure, enshittification will happen. In the meanwhile, enjoy Steam for what it is for now, but prepare with contingencies.
Serious question and not trying to be funny, but how is AI going to solve climate change? We already know the answer, but the world is too greedy to do anything about it. As a matter of fact, AI will worsen climate change since more power is needed for it to write couple of sentences.
I use m4a format simply because my downloader uses that format. But I think m4a sound quality is better than mp3.
It is easy to very feel disillusioned with the world, but it is important to remember that there are still good people all around willing to fight the good fight. And it is also important to remember that technology is not inherently bad, it is a neutral object, but people could use it for either good or bad purposes.
