Is there a word for when the media is constantly like 3+ years behind with “warnings” like this? I mean Jesus Christ, turning into?

You know, it’s funny, the only time I read someone referring to Americans as Yankees is when it’s a post-Soviet bloc troll. Such a red flag to me.

[David Attenborough voice] Here we see the Yankee attempt to protect their bubble by claiming that anything which contradicts their perceived reality is the result of some dangerous foreigner.

However, while the Yankee does their best to isolate themselves from the perceived dangers outside, they are completely unaware that this paranoia is just one of the symptoms of the parasite that has begun to lodge itself deep within their brain. Without immediate assistance the Yankee will likely develop increasingly fascist tendencies before perishing in a rather gruesome manner as the Yankee colony self destructs.

      Well Obama ‘fixed’ it.
Made it even more draconian but called it the Freedom Act.
Shit like that works every time.

God I miss the pre-9/11 US, when the worst thing happening was bad jokes on SNL about Bill Clinton and cigars.

          Maybe not the best example.
At that time this sleezebag (and others with power) got away with a lot of sexual misconduct.
And in his case probably rapes.
Minimising it as him being some naughthy schoolboy and making jokes about is not really something I miss.

Yes. Unfortunately, these systems are also a great gift for any upcoming fascist regime (like the Trump junta currently) which will not only happily continue using the existing infrastructure but also extend it like mad.

Maybe humanity’s greatest weaknesses overall: the lack of foresight and the lack of wisdom learned from historic precedents (e.g. Nazi Germany? Forgotten by now). Everything’s always about short-term goals, ignoring any long-term disadvantages. See also: climate disaster.

Laws aren’t enough for something of this magnitude. The general population needs to grow to match the much greater challenges presented by modern technology, or we’re going to descend into another dark age until we do learn how to behave.

“Turning into” lol. The USA and all their partner countries like the ones in the 5 Eyes program have all been mass techno-surveillance states for decades.

The 5 eyes countries are not allowed to spy on their own citizens, but they can freely share data.

Isn’t there an obvious loophole here.

Shhhh… Don’t make it even more obvious. The fig leaf covering it is already so flaccid, that it might instantaneously turn into dust at the slightest disturbance.

How hard did Musk press his fingers on his other hand? Or does his blood not flow that hard?
