Sort of. Nintendo’s lawyers showed up at the house of the lead dev and he nuked everything he had access to afterwards, which is all we really know, but unlike Yuzu there were no court filings or takedowns or anything. Forks of Ryujinx are still just up on Github.
The actual answer to that question is that the Switch 2 will be out soon. Nintendo doesn’t actually want to go to court over emulators, because there’s a real chance they lose. They were willing to push the devs with Switch emulators though, because that’s the current console generation, and that REALLY pissed them off. They’ve basically accepted that emulators are inevitable even if they don’t like it, but emulating the console they are currently releasing new games for was a step too far as far as they’re concerned.
Can’t understand the difference between defending people who made a hasty decision when their life is on the line if they trust the wrong person and still supporting that decision now that there’s been time to analyze things? Yeah, it’s true that a lot of the discussion around this misses a lot of important information, but this shit is literally a matter life and death here now for some people, and Andy Yen made that post right in the middle of a whole bunch of tech CEOs all kissing the ring. Americans are on edge for a damn good reason. That’s a good article, and I’m pretty convinced the whole thing was overblown, but if you can’t understand the difference between not trusting the guy who just praised a fascist and “trying to infect the rest of the world” then don’t fucking talk about other people being too binary in their thinking.
I’m not interested in anything based off Chromium, and I don’t really like the idea of going with a Firefox fork much either. You’re not only trusting them to actually care about your privacy and security, and you’re not even just trusting them to actually catch and fix all of Mozilla’s shenanigans as well. You are also trusting them to constantly stay on top of all the latest security patches. There aren’t really any Firefox forks I trust with all 3 of those things at once. Even if there was, there are certainly no forks of Firefox that have anything even remotely close to the capacity necessary to maintain a web engine on their own, so you’re still trusting Mozilla to keep Firefox updated and secure for your fork of choice to even have a chance.
Until a new browser with a new engine comes along that actually lets me use the full uBlock Origin there’s not really any other option besides Firefox that makes sense. At least to me.

SSNs are literally just handed out to hospitals and social security offices in batches and given out in sequential order. They were specifically and intentionally designed to be a terrible system of ID numbers because people actually used to care about their privacy. There are countless people who’ve gone their whole lives using the wrong social security number and gotten their benefits just fine, because unlike everyone else in this dumpster fire of a country the social security office has never been stupid enough to rely on just a single number.
Microcenter has two locations in the entire western half of the country. There are tens of millions of people in the US who live more than 1,000 miles from the nearest Microcenter. Every time I’ve gone to their stupid website they’ve said they can’t ship any of the things I want. Microcenter isn’t a real thing.
It’s true that Valve probably won’t want to lose money selling a hypothetical SteamOS console, but they make all their money through Steam, and people using SteamOS will probably buy a lot of games through Steam. The goal for them probably isn’t to make money from hardware sales. It would be to jump start a market for SteamOS console-like devices made by other companies, like they’re doing with the Steam Deck for handheld devices. Plus this would be mid generation, so getting PS5 level performance for a similar price wouldn’t necessarily involve losing money right now, since console manufacturers haven’t seemed real interested in price drops this gen.
Well, no, you’re not going to be etching CPUs into silicon wafers in your basement, but it could massively lower the barrier to entry. Small startup companies being able to design processors that could compete with the likes of Intel and AMD would be a pretty big improvement.
You could learn how to design a RISC-V processor if you really wanted to. You can’t learn how to make an x86 processor that doesn’t infringe on Intel and AMD’s patents.
People seeing something unusual and checking to see if it’s enough to be concerning is a good thing, even if it’s not actually a problem. I think people have formed a habit of not bothering to try because they have had the tools to learn things for themselves hidden from them, and we should be blaming it on the people doing the hiding, not blowing it off as people these days being magically different from how people used to be somehow.
I don’t really believe that. For either of them. You don’t have to be a computer expert to know that high ping is bad, and you don’t have to be a mechanic to know that the oil pressure gauge moving away from the middle of its range means something serious is going wrong. I think it’s because corporations don’t want us to understand what’s going on when things go wrong, not because people would be incapable of understanding if given the information.

Sony released a more realistic looking big budget Overwatch clone. It was fine, but nobody cared, because nobody wants a $40 live service Overwatch clone where all the characters have similar silhouettes. They spent 8 years making an okay game for nobody. If they’d done something different with the same basic characters and gunplay it could have maybe been good. They didn’t though, so estimates suggested they sold about 25,000 copies worldwide before pulling it from their store and refunding everyone.
Well, part of the problem with modern emulators is that more and more consoles are just relying on regular off the shelf hardware components. That means more of what makes them unique is in software, which is a problem, because emulating software is a lot harder to defend legally, especially in the US and Japan.
So, realistically, the sooner you see a Switch 2 emulator pop up, the faster it’s likely to be taken down by Nintendo’s lawyers.
Also, they’re probably not going to screw up and leave in a hardware recovery mode that bypasses all their security again, which is a big part of why Yuzu could get started so fast.
