I don’t really need all the fluff that Plex has but the only thing holding me back is no PS5 support.

Transition my main host to Linux, maybe Plex to Jellyfin, setup a switch (have an RS900 and access to acquire a free CS2960), a UPS or two. I may also wind up getting my hands on some PoE cameras and APs. Run some cable too.

When someone previously told a vrtx vm not to auto boot after power up and none of the remote access is working either… Both undocumented as well, of course. And your tired AF tech is statically configuring the wrong IP range on their laptop to manu because it’s been a long shutdown day and are also unfamiliar with the system in general (me). Good times, I figured it out though, but lots of sweating and swearing.

I use VBox to run my PiHole for now and have used it to play with a couple distros side by side. I also have a sup’d up tower built from spare parts from work, so resources aren’t a constraint.

I have a workday routine setup to turn specific lights on for set stations. If my bathroom vanity and kitchen lights were capable of taking smart bulbs, I wouldn’t have to touch a light switch in the morning. It also means I don’t have to fumble in the dark, half asleep.

I also have another similar routine but for when my wife gets up with the kids for school.

Being able to let the kids keep a light on but at 1% brightness is glorious, because it’s a nightlight they can’t pull out of the wall.

Mood lightning in not just brightness levels but also colours.

Granted half of what I said is capable without a voice assistant.

Also I discovered that simulated grey light is a thing and it’s awful… But I learned that because of my voice assistant.

Browsers on phones too so access is already outside the app store
