It’s definitely an underrated game!!

In order to get good recommendations you’re going to need to provide additional information. How many people are playing? How complex can a game be? What games have you tried and loved? Is there a favorite mechanism? What is the game duration you’re going for? 10 min? 30? 3 hours? What’s your budget?

Generic recommendations based on my library:

• Just One - Favorite party game

• Brass Birmingham - My favorite; Beware it’s quite complex and lasts around 3 hours

• Blood Rage - Cool dude’s on a map game with very nice minis

• Turing Machine - Good puzzle game

• Slay The Spire - If you love slay the spire, you’ll love cooperative slay the spire as well

• Menara - Favorite dexterity game

Unfortunately this is one of the cases where you’re going to have to do some research.

Check ProtonDB to see how a game plays on Linux. I’m assuming the flight simulator would be problematic.

Usually the periferal drivers are built into the Linux kernel. Your keyboard and mice will just work, gamepads as well. Niche stuff like wheels and flight controllers will likely not work out of the box and you’ll have to find a community based software to support it. Sucks.

If I were you I’d boot a virtual machine or a live USB drive and try it out. If you’re not comfortable with the amount of compatibility just don’t install it. Nothing lost

If you have the exact hardware supported by the SteamOS then you’ll be fine. However, I don’t even know of they support nvidia video cards yet, I believe most of their stack is optimized for AMD cards.

In that sense, installing a more generalist linux distribution will net you a better driver compatibility.

Linux gaming is at a fantastic state right now, you install steam and games work. 20 years ago I would have never believed it to be possible.

Trying from a USB or virtual machine is just a good idea in general. Use Ventoy to put several distros into a single USB stick and try them out. Try your hardware, check which UI you like the most.

If you are tech savvy enough to install Windows, you can easily install Linux as well. If you install any of the big distros you will have a good time.

Linux not supporting kernel level anti-cheats is an amazing feature, in my honest opinion.

It’s not going to happen in this iteration of SteamOS. It remains mostly a gaming “only” distribution.

I stopped using LinkedIn because it totally turned into Facebook. Everyone is just posting memes, motivation quotes or soccer.

Nah, your ISP doesn’t give you enough bandwidth to host your own mini YouTube. You vastly underestimate the bandwidth required to run the service. It’s massive, which is why PeerTube is having a hard time gaining traction.

Serious question: how can YouTube pay the bills with zero ads? I’m not talking about making a profit, just breaking even.

Except content creators want to create content, not maintain an instance.

Switching to more private and less data hungry services is a tough process. How private do you want to be? If you take it too far, you won’t have a cell phone or a bank account.

Carefully consider the changes you are willing make right now. Start small, progress slowly. Don’t get discouraged and remember that total privacy doesn’t exist.

Start by swapping search engine, don’t use Google or Bing. That’s an easy goal that already makes a big difference. Use something like Duck duck go, Startpage or something like that.

Eventually move away from gmail. Get your own domain, create your own email address. Slowly migrate your important accounts to the new email. This can take time but it’s not hard and you just removed the 2 largest sources of data from Google.

Stop using Chrome, try Firefox. Personally recommend LibreWolf, a Firefox fork. At the very least move to Brave browser (but make sure you disable the crypto crap). Most extensions exist in both browsers this should easy.

Eventually consider moving to Linux but don’t rush it. Study what apps you need, what alternatives are there in Linux. Expect a way worse user experience but a way way better ownership. Try in a VM or live environment before you even consider installing it for real.

Well if I only have time to play a game a month, I’m not gonna play a 6/10 game. I’m not saying to blindly trust metacritic but when you seldom play games you need to filter them aggressively somehow.

Even if the AI was at the point if outputing exactly what you want correcly, decision makers would still need to be able to specify exactly what they want and need. “I want a website that pops” isn’t going to cut it.

Android ROMs community took Google’s work? Are you forgetting which community developed Kernel does Android use? Let’s not think about the custom ROMs community as free loaders, please. They provide a free and amazing service.

If you don’t have time to tinker maybe consider another distribution more suited to your needs. Waiting 5s for every action is not a time effective solution.
