Ive seen the tvshow discussion taking off across lemmy which has been cool.
They did managed hosting before but everyone freaked out that the communist devs were controlling the narrative or some shit. It was a mess, I think they stopped doing it now that there are more instances.

Any possibility for hash tags to be added? Cross instance topics would be so much easier to browse especially when similar topics are discussed across different community names across difference instances.

Also you can customize the CSS for your server that extends to all clients using the jf webapp. Plex will never have that
You should however give jellyfin a shot as it has a bunch of cool features and is way more extensible than Plex.
Plex is still more polished but ive found there are a bunch of plugins for jellyfin that are really cool

If you are worried about opening port 443 on your local firewall I suggest trying to get a cheap vps with decent bandwidth and hosting a reverse proxy on it that points back to your local jellyfin over a tunnel.
Ive been doing it for a few months now and finally got all my family off of Plex.
All of these takedowns ive been hearing about seem to be piracy sites people find by searching ‘watch free tv’ on google.
Maybe we should just keep making a bunch of these easier to find sites so the feds just keep taking them down instead of coming anywhere near the scene.
