  • When FFXIV implemented better blocking tools this past summer, there was an option when blocking a single character to block the entire service account. This would be fine, but the implementation they went with is client side, and when you select that option, you get the service account ID. Which means that if you’re blocked by someone, you can’t made an alt character to stalk/harass them. But with third party tools, we can see this account ID. The stalker could just use a new account and find the person’s account ID that they were harassing and find any alt character they have in the game. They’re changing this soon as a third party tool popped up and is now able to do this, full source code leaked so there’s no shutting it down until the game devs change how it’s done.

This sounds super similar, but the implementation that you had to do for google is crazy.

  • One of my friend groups does a weird thing that I love. We use Discord for video sharing and TeamSpeak for audio while we watch stuff on a shared site. I like the disconnect because we can hop to different rooms in TeamSpeak while seeing people in discord. Sometimes people will call shots, drawing art, etc. and you’ll just see it while being in something like a “quiet convo” TS room to watch the video without drunk people talking over it. People join and you can wave to them while not having to say anything because you’re in a different room with others. It’s like a real party room kinda vibe where you can see everyone but not hear everyone and you form your little groups organically without talking over each other.

It’s niche, but I wish TS/Discord just had that natively.

  • I remember when I was in college running a hackintosh. I was at the end of the hall and had awful Wi-Fi reception, so I just had my desktop emitting Wi-Fi for me and my dorm mate. I pirated some stuff but never seeded. I told my roommate about pirating and whatnot and showed him how to pirate Parks and Recreation. He didn’t turn off seeding. The university banned my MAC address, but luckily I could spoof one and have internet. He had to go to the dean and tell him he was sorry and that he won’t do it again to get my hardware MAC banned so I didn’t have to change it every time I booted up.

The fact that it was so simple for me to get around this ban was hilarious.
