Surprised no one in this thread has yet mentioned how this movie very much parallels Alien: Isolation and the huge success that game had by being so consistent with the premise of the first movie.

Agreed. The star wars stuff that is great is the stuff that isn’t tied down to the original trilogy characters and plot. it’s stuff that expands upon it with new characters and stories in the existing universe’s rules.

This is why the star wars prequels/sequels were so poorly received, they were totally inconsistent with the universe for the sake of ham-fisting in the original characters and re hashing the original plotline of the first trilogy. There was no respect for the rules that were established in the OG trilogy that people came to know and love.

Because it was bad movie. Bad characters, nonsensical plot, and did nothing creative or interesting with the mythos. Sure, it was shiny and had need effects, but it was forgettable and empty otherwise. Just another big budget Hollywood movie.

People were looking for something memorable and epic and that expanded the mythos… Promethus was none of those.

I taught business ethnics for MBAs when i was in graduate school.

The only ‘ethics’ they learned was ‘maximize shareholder value at any price’. They spent an entire semester learning to to argue why murdering people and abusing people was morally justified as long as the share price goes up. That was the curriculum. Nothing else mattered.

just like IG, YT, video/music stremaing etc. you could stumble upon random and interesting shit… now the algo is just trying to shove kendrick lamar and joe rogan at me none stop because that is what is ‘popular’ and whatever shitty movie that netflix is trying to promote.

browsing is dead and search is also mostly broken. you can’t even effectively search for shit anymore.

the only place i can freely browse anymore is my local library. and discover lots of cool things. that experience on the internet is dead.

the vast majority of nutbags with low key mental issues i meet are social media addicts who furiously want to bring their ‘curated’ image into the real world and force others to worship them.

the others nutbags are homeless folks.

irrational belief based on fantasy fuels people to action a lot more than rational belief based in reality.

because the former is exciting and meaningful, the latter is boring and mundane.

hence why the crazies tend to believe in cabal conspiracies of evil people whom they must fight against. whereas your average voter is like ‘who do i want to have a beer with and make me feel like i’m doing better financially… i’ll vote him’

You are missing the point.
