I’d have no problem with them making Bluesky account, but why not both that and spinning up a Mastodon server?
It’s just short-sighted

A bit of a hacky workaround on Android. Get Keepass2Android, use the included keyboard.
“Paste” whatever via the inbuilt password input functionality. It basically auto types out your passwords. (You protect this behind a master password/and optionally quick accessed by biometrics)
Profit
“Something something FTC unconstitutional, not even sarcastically” - these oligarchs
Unfortunately none of these are end-to-end encrypted (I believe). Thanks though!
Nooooooo! That sounded perfect. The app is still up but it’s entirely missing from their website :(
Thanks for sharing
Close, but it appears admins of instances have access to your info, sadly :/
My problem with decentralised social Media currently is that it’s entirely unencrypted and publically viewable.
I don’t mind so much on services like Lemmy where it’s a bit of fun to make comments and post random things without it being directly linked to your identity (though I am aware the content is still likely being scraped by someone somewhere).
I’d really love a Facebook/Instagram replacement, but end-to-end encrypted where only the people you’ve given permission to can view your content.
No idea how this would be achieved, but PixelFed is pretty useless unless you’re posting publically.
This song is near and dear to my heart after having only heard it a handful of times before
Though, the problems described are not from the project managers, it’s the higher ups and owners squeezing every last cent, with disregard for the people who will be killed.
So, so many unnecessary deaths because someone wanted to save money and cut corners in my industry.
This is why people who advocate for small government and lax regulations, are idiots
I don’t work in software, I’m a chemical (aka process) engineer.
Some project managers are superfluous if they don’t have a background being an engineer of some discipline themselves, but the vast majority I’ve worked with are excellent because they have a working knowledge of everything required to progress each stage of the project, and deal with most of the client interactions.
Being able to say: “we’ve done x, but we still need y, z and aa to progress” and then the project manager organising this getting done together with the other discipline leads is a godsend, letting you focus on doing the actual calculations/design/nitty-gritty details. And the fact they manage the annoying role of dealing with clients and the disagreements around that is also great.
This is working as a consultant, but I imagine if you replace clients with higher ups, I’d imagine the same still applies.
Perhaps things are very different in software, but I do think there is some use for them.
But I’ve never had one check up every 15 mins, more like once a day, and only if something is very time sensitive. Otherwise it’s once a week, or by email as required.
How is this a good argument? The law from the post being stupid notwithstanding, by this logic, why bother making any regulations or laws at all if someone, somewhere is gonna break it.
Are you aware of how much of society is held together with the duct tape of social obligation and the honestly system? Yes we have audits, and enforcement, but honestly in a health society, the vast majority is self-imposed.
This is a really poor argument against government regulation, is all I’m saying.
It boggles the mind how many times a higher up comes up with some idea (in any context, not just politicians), and never stops to answer the question: “how is this going to work?”.
She’ll be right mate, don’t worry about it 🇦🇺
And Windows 8/10 didn’t take features away for no reason. (Or at least, they didn’t insist on them for too long, with the windows 8 desktop fiasco)
You will take my top taskbar from my cold dead hands Microsoft, who the fuck signed off on this? They actively shutdown any forum threads on it too.
Off to Linux we go.
Other than at work, where I have no choice :(
In the early days of brave it was glorious. Set up max notification on my phone, set to minimise notifications - profit.
Literally cashed out like $100 this way over the span of about 6 months, before the rugpull, I assume. Ads paying out way less now.
It was hilarious. For me. The ads were (and I believe still are) primarily advertising other shitcoins hahaha
Edit: I should note, I used Tasker and did not have to see a single ad.
I’m not claiming they’re the same as cigarettes. Just that if they hadn’t come along, a huge number of people (in Australia) may never have picked up a nicotine addiction at all.
And that’s a shame :(
there’s a lot more people quitting smoking than there are picking up vaping
Sadly, in Australia, this isn’t the case. We had very, very low smoking rates, and vaping has opened up the floodgates to new nicotine addicts, many, many of which never even tried cigarettes.
I’m pretty annoyed about it, to be honest.
Another generation who will reap the rewards of cancer, which will be a massive cost to society. Financially and emotionally.
I really hope we can stem the tide.
It’s not even mob justice, it’s vigilante justice. It just so happens in this case practically everyone is pretty happy about it having happened.
The mob never called for this CEO’s death, we’re just not sad he was killed. Even if in general most of us wouldn’t actively call for people to be killed.
If it makes CEOs afraid, then fantastic, a nice happy side-bonus.
People should lie about as much as possible to most companies they interact with online anyway (obviously don’t lie to your bank, or doctor, or whatever). Do always, without fail, lie randomly about your age, gender, address (if it’s not relevant) or anything else that’s not actually needed to provide the service.
Unless you’re at a company using Microsoft services, where you have no choice, other than chrome (at my company), which hot take, is worse than edge.
“With YouTube Premium, enjoy ad-free access, downloads, and background play on YouTube and YouTube Music.”
In Australia, if they reneg on this headline promise, doesn’t matter what’s in the fine print, this would be refundable under Australian Consumer Law (not a lawyer).
What bullshit, and how silly on their part, since it’s just so much more convenient to block ads instead of paying
Hiring one extra person, for an agency that covers hundreds of millions of people? I’m gonna go out there and say yes, that is reasonable to expect. Sure, uptake is low now, but network effect is responsible for that, now when people are moving from Twitter is the exact time to encourage people to change to something better.
The European Commission has its head on straight, that they are being a first mover on Mastodon, because putting critical communication infrastructure in the hands of a private company is silly long term.
I’m not doubting your reasoning as to why this agency hasn’t bothered, but it’s not convincing that it’s reasonable.
