  • Funny, it’s been less than 24hrs and I got a ticket in complaining about why PDFs look one way in Ease US PDF editor and totally different in Adobe Reader. You’re just wrong. I didn’t say it was worth the money to pay for Adobe, and I didn’t say it wasn’t a scam. But I do tell the truth when it comes to true parity, there are competitors to PDF editing but there is no free PDF editors that properly do the job 100% of the time.

  • Adobe acrobat is THE PDF editor. PDF is a proprietary format created and developed by Adobe. Any software that can edit PDFs is doing so in a format they do not have any control over. And there just aren’t any proper PDF editors that are feature complete. now if you’re an individual who needs to make a PDF in the privacy of your own home, by all means, use a cheap or free or FOSS application to do so. But if you need that PDF to be readable and useable and seamlessly compatible on other computers for other users for ever? Better pay the Adobe tax because there is a good chance, it won’t look the way you expect it to when someone opens it up in Adobe which their company definitely has.

  • Ad supported search is the only way people will continue to use the internet. I feel the only real reason the internet is so widely used is because of the accuracy and accessibility provided by search engines and without them, the web as it currently exists will die and become small factions of like-minded individuals on forums. Some people like that idea but I’ll tell you, as someone who lived through the internet in that era, there was some pretty fucked up shit that came out of those spaces.

We need global agora and we need ways to stay connected on unified platforms and we need to maintain history and knowledge. The Internet is our species’s latest evolution. It allows us to combine our collective thoughts and knowledge for better or for worse. Destroying the primary way to navigate the Internet is an awful idea even though the leader of that industry is Google.

  • People had the same argument about 4K from 2K and the same argument about frame rates higher than 60fps. But, the bigger counter to that argument is that even if that were true, additional features take up additional bandwidth and the true power of these new connector standards is in the additional bandwidth. Things like 4K HDR at very high refresh rates and additional features like 3D and VRR can have signal room on the same cable enabling the creation of displays that can do more at once than they could before. Also there are high pixel density displays and projectors that can make use of 8K and 16K footage. It’s niche for now but the technology advancing is not a bad thing.

  • When convention doesn’t convey the proper flow of the conversation then you have to improvise. I’ve seen this in western comics before, though I don’t have any examples on hand. The bubbles have a tail indicator to show who is speaking and a flow indicator to show the order in which the bubbles are spoken. It is a little strange in this case but it’s not unheard of and it does the job it was drawn to do.

  • Shitty software? The software is great. It sucks that we live in a world that needs MFA to be secure. I also don’t think any software exists in the IT space that doesn’t require some sign in. Every RMM on the planet is going to require secure sign on and so will every knowledge base software. You also need to sign in to access things like domain DNS. Most of my job is locked behind half a dozen sign ins. That’s how it goes for MSPs anything else would be unsecure.

Sign in states for tokens expire when you power cycle. If you’re in IT or moving between classes, not only would you have to wait for power down and power on each stop you make, you’d also need to sign into every tool you use that requires credentials. I work as a field tech for an MSP. If I had to shut down at the end of each stop and boot back up then I’d have to spend 20-30 minutes signing back into my RMM, ticket system, azure portal, knowledge base etc on top of the site specific stuff I’m already going to have to sign into for that stop. Sleep great. Just disable S0 sleep.
