Dude play Black Mesa! It’s a modern remake of the original Half Life but with a new and improved Xen at the end. I played Opposing Force and Blue Shift back in the day but barely remember them. I’d love to replay those games.
Edit: https://store.steampowered.com/app/362890/Black_Mesa/ It’s on sale for $5 right now. Also it runs decently in Linux, when I played it would crash every 20 minutes or so in some sections, I think there is/was a memory leak or something.
No, you’re not understanding it correctly. The issue is that kernel-level DRM is a terrible thing on Windows, the fact that it doesn’t work on Linux is also a side effect.
Brand protection partners is a much friendlier way to say bloodsucking lawyers.
AliExpress will somehow find a way to ship you a mat that doesn’t work after waiting 2 months for it to arrive.
Inscription! FTL faster than light! Dicey dungeons!
Does your voice calling work ok in Firefox? My video calls start off ok but always seem to drop out after a short bit. I wonder if it’s Firefox or my 30 privacy and security extensions lol
It sucks, it doesn’t work properly in Firefox, so I have keep it open in a Chromium window too. This morning I saw new messages in my Chromium but not in Firefox until I reloaded the page. I wonder what other information it’s keeping from me.
Install it, don’t stress and have fun 😊
I switched someone recently (she installed mint instead of kubuntu that recommended) and soon after exclaimed that it’s just like windows. I think she assumed everything would be in a terminal lol, now she gaming in steam. Anyway you’ll probably find it more similar than different. The one big difference is that we don’t download and run software from the Internet, we have something like an app store where everything is vetted and trustworthy.
If it were me, I’d do a fresh minimal install of the same OS, boot to the livecd and then delete pretty much everything except for /etc and /boot. I’d then cp -ar all my files from the failing drive and then manually merge /etc back. I say manually merge because most things would get replaced by my old files, but I’d manually modfify my fstab to keep the new partition information and add my extra mounts after it. Maybe that’s just me though. You can also just dd and then resize partitions if necessary.
Eww extremely embarrassing that they used Windows.
My middle finger curl outside which means my left middle finder perfectly follows the path from S to W which is important as a gamer. Honestly, I think I’m the latest in an evolutionary arms race to produce more biologically effective keyboard gamers.
Well hey, welcome to the Linux club :)
Unlike Windows, in Linux every process has a parent except for PID (Process ID) 1, which is the init system. You can run a command like ps auxf
and you’ll get a tree of all your processes and you can hopefully see what spawned VirtualBox.
No.
My fingers are crooked and better suited to a normal keyboard lol
Bummer! What’s its parent process? Maybe that will hint at something.
Why not? I already did it and it works great.
Try to exclude it from being restored on KDE startup. There could be something running in the background that keeps getting saved and restored. Go to System Settings, System, Desktop Session, put virtualbox in the ignored applications list. You can also just choose “Start with an empty session” and then relog to see if that stops it from coming back, then you’ll know if this is causing your problem or not. Good luck!
Google added it to their search by default, I had to change my default search to exclude it. Same with my Android phone, I got prompted to switch from Google Assistant to Bard and declined. Really glad I did since I later read about how awful it is. Yesterday I saw a copilot icon in Teams that I have to use for work. I clicked it out of curiosity and it showed an error and then wouldn’t let me use Teams for 5 minutes. When I finally got in the copilot button was gone lol.
Starcraft, Starcraft 2 has ruined me with multi-building-selection, the clunkiness, no smart casting, selecting more than a handful of units at a time.
