Doomerism - I don’t think that word means what you think it means (or you just don’t understand what UBI could be the start of, don’t know anything about MLK, probably all of the above).
Considering MLK’s understanding and support of Marxist ideas, he’d probably be fighting for technological progress as long as it came along with UBI, since that’s literally the basis of a better world for everyone, unlike systemic racism and capitalism he was fighting against, which really aren’t comparable at all (sure, both could be used to fuck up the prospect and potential of technological progress and UBI, but that’s the fault of systemic racism and capitalism, not technological progress and UBI).

The kind of thing this can be used for is about ten stages past jerking off, and in to stalker territory. So a person already using the internet for jerking off can now pinpoint exactly where the person they’re jerking off to lives, and potentially turn up at their house, and escalate from there. This is beyond just creepy (and exploitative, in the case of corporations using the info), it’s potentially putting lives at risk.
To add to the valid points others already made - some people simply don’t have the inclination or know how, or even just the physical space to store all these old machines. Yet those machines going to landfill are still almost certainly the responsibility of those who not only made them barely last a couple of years, but who invest billions if not trillions on developing a newer version no one wants, and selling it (or forcing it) on people despite no one really needing it…

I hate to /HailCorporate but it was affordable, takes cheap unbranded ink, and hasn’t given me much trouble (I don’t use it often, so the ink heads do dry, but a couple of cycles of head cleaning and they’re good to go again).
It’s called capitalism, and it relies on constant and infinite growth, which is impossible, but that’s not going to stop those making all the money from trying (until the whole thing collapses on us all while they hide out in their bunker).
