Mint Cinnamon. It turned out just to be switching the name of a file on the boot media but it took a long time to work through other issues to get there.

I finally switched to Linux, while Linux itself is just as easy to use as Windows, actually installing Linux can be a nightmare. When setup works properly its no harder than windows, the other 95% of the time its about chasing down an easily solved problem but you have to figure out which easily solved problem it is.
Except AI companies are already using data from Internet Archive wholesale with paying them a cent.
Which is the ultimate goal I think, if your main storage is already as fast as RAM then you just don’t need RAM anymore and also can’t run out of memory in most cases since the whole program is functionally already loaded.
Thank you! this solved it and I am writing this comment from Linux.
\EFI\BOOT\grubx64.efi
Can you tell me where to get this? The threads are all written by people who seem to assume the reader already knows what it is and the GNU GRUB website appears to be completely dead with none of the links or pages working except for the introduction one.
No luck with secure boot, gonna see if I can find a bios update for this thing.
Edit: Aaaand Asus no longer offers bios updates for this model.
Been trying to install mint on an old laptop and it just gets into a crash/boot loop after installing. The USB preview on the other hand appears to work perfectly.
The scary part is even humans don’t really have a proper escape mechanism for this kind of misinformation. Sure we can spot AI a lot of the time but there are also situations where we can’t and it kind of leaves us only trusting people we already knew before AI, and being more and more distrustful of information in general.
I feel like that one was also due to awful development practices, they had the whole scrapping the entire first 2 years of work thing due to a control freak lead dev who was ultimately releaved of his position (though not until after release iirc)
Minus all the caveats like not being reliable on anything with an NVidia GPU or just hating your specific setup for no reason (I am salty, I’m going to keep trying anyway)
I mean… they are out of touch. I’m sure its possible to have a pain free switch over but when I had trouble the advice was interspersed with quite a few caveats. In essence Linux is ‘easy to setup but…’ Still gonna try again though, also guys that laptop you all said was dying because linux made it crash is still working fine on windows with no sign of trouble.
So misleading that the RTX shots also use the re-mastered assets making it look like it magically makes the entire game higher res. Reminds me of those clickbait 3D modelling tips videos where all they do is use a ton of subdivision, yeh it looks smoother, its also got like 8x the geometry to work with.
It sounds more like he’s pointing out a literary trope to me.
To be fair two cans and a piece of string kicks the UKs arse when it comes to telecommunications.
I’m not even sure how, it seems like its kind of wealth gated because you have to be able to make enough from your investments to cover brokerage fees. I’m not aware of any non US retail investment platform that doesn’t have a regular fee to pay.
Well, cable will not reach a warzone which is a rather pertinent use for a satellite communication system at present.
Its 100% a huge issue with Amazon, at this point pretty sure everyone knows how all the different sellers get lumped in together so you order from seller A and recieve a product from seller B because Amazon considers them the same thing. Means you can’t even be sure wether the seller you thought you purchased from is the one that scammed you; and means even buying from a companies official amazon listing isn’t protection.
Saw a picture of him without sunglasses recently and man has bloodshot ketamine addict eyes, the sunglasses are to hide that.
I mean I did complain on lemmy about how annoying it was a few times, its a shame too because this problem turned out to be super simple and potentially super common, it would just take a couple of lines being changed on the official setup guide to resolve it… actually come to think of it since its just renaming a file all it would take is having 2 copies of that file in the image with both names since only one is ever going to be used at a time anyway.
