I am in the camp that there is a benefit to the managed store. Since moving family members to iOS devices the number of times they have loaded malware or asked me for help installing ANYTHING dropped to zero.

Should techies be able to side load if they want? Sure, should that be a primary install method? No.

Epic isn’t wrong about Apples payment requirements being BS, but Epic also isn’t exactly a hero here.

Will be interesting to see how this pissing match plays out over time.

Should you be able to use other payment providers outside of apple pay YES!

Should you be able to install other APP stores on an iPhone? Not sure.

    • Why? this is important as it will probably eliminate some options.
    • What? What do you expect? Do you have specific clients you want to work (iOS mail app?, Samsung mail app? etc), are you good with a 3rd party app? Web interface only? Do you have or want a custom domain or are you migration to @newcompanyhostingme.com?
    • Price? What is your budget? Outside a hand full of options that sell your info to be free almost everything else has a cost.

  • console = network, game = content… is my argument.

IE Nintendo was happy to sell more units with Sega content, and sega moving to software / content had no choice but to sell on other platorms.

I’m not sure if Nintendo would get a percent of a 3rd party devs profits.

Nintendo makes money on EVERY cart sold and every electronic purchase… it is a major part of their EXPENSIVE model and why Nintendo platform games always seem more expensive. It is also why they still sell cart based systems so they are the ONLY supplier of the media, but now they have their own eStore as well.

I don’t know why so many companies decide to use Windows these days when there’s Unix/Linux

None of our end users know how to use Unix/Linux… MacOS or Chrome books would be more likely looking at the youngest in the work force.

Everything else you listed basically comes down to end user / power user preferences. 99% of our end users barely remember what to click on if it is not on their desktop.

Like, I don’t know why any serious company would use Windows with this in mind

Being able to mass configure, secure and monitor all devices with many different vendor tools remotely is nice. Have you ever tried to manage a fleet of Linux laptops in the field?
