Silent Hill 2 remake has just been released on GOG. Definitely wasn’t expecting this to happen less than a year after release.

It’s an interesting take on the game: while the core plot points are in place, the game has been made more true to imagination, and has been expanded to about double-and-a-half length without ever feeling like filler. Think of it somewhere between a remix and an extended cut.

The opening sequence of the game, just as you enter town, has Vachss street blocked off, and you go somewhere else to get your nailed two-by-four, in a separate series of events. It’s well done and the rest of the game is reshuffled in a similar fashion.

Interesting. I just started playing the remake. I wasn’t aware that the game was altered like this. Hope we get the original as well so that I can play them both.

Yeah, if you want the original, grab the rom and an HD texture pack. I’m glad I got to see a longer form of a similar but not exact experience.

A great modern game much better than the original. Worth it even if you played the original.

I played the first one or two long ago, I think it was early 00s. They were great, I was living in a big, long-abandoned commercial building we’d squatted and had a big screen (for those days) I’d found & fixed, amp and speakers likewise. I’d get stoned, stay up late playing alone, so atmospheric and proper scary. I really enjoyed them.

I am sure I’ve forgotten enough plot to enjoy playing remakes but I’d be playing em on steam deck, and I’m a little worried they wouldn’t live up to my memories.
