I actually just bought my first meshtastic node and of course it uses LoRa and so I’m now diving into the encoding rates and shit like that. The very long slow seems to use 62 kHz of bandwidth and offers a transverse beat of 0.09kbps. However, you get a link budget of -157dB of decoding on that, which is insane.
Just makes me realize that I haven’t used Google search in like over a year now because I use Kagi. Even before that i was using searx-ng.

I love the idea, but it’s definitely nowhere near ready yet for prime time. And the data speeds are incredibly slow. Using it definitely is possible, but it would be absolutely nothing like the internet we are currently used to.

Nothing in this world is ever 100% complete, but decentralization and protocols are extremely good combat measures. It is possible to poke holes in almost anything. But that does not mean it’s not worth trying.

Personally, I don’t do spreadsheets, or I do them incredibly rarely, but obviously for that, you need a bigger screen. And I do have a laptop. I just don’t use it all that often. My phone is my primary computing device. My phone is not my only computing device.
I agree until there’s at least open source software to run them. I would not want anything to do with it. Honestly, though, I would prefer both open source hardware and software for this if at all possible.
Same here. It used to be that you had to get them subsidized by government programs such as vocational rehabilitation. But now they are affordable by just saving for a little bit.
Are you actually fully building your own, or are you going to flash, meshtastic? Because apparently, it’s extremely finicky about communication. And if you get one setting different on the modem settings, it won’t talk to anything else except the ones you set up yourself.
