I feel so called out, even though I’m the second box and I currently use tumbleweed.

Yeah I suppose. I came on to reddit early, before there even were subreddits, and comparing young Lemmy to an over-the-hill reddit isn’t a fair comparison.
Still feels like Lemmy tries to be a drop-in replacement for Reddit (sent from Boost for Lemmy), and it really can’t be until it sees much, much more growth.
The problem is community.
Lemmy doesn’t fill every hole that reddit filled. There are a lot of industry and hobby subs that just don’t have the audience here. Especially the more niche ones.
Shitposting and memes…yeah, we got that in spades. But that’s not what keeps people coming. You can get top-notch shitposts anywhere.
My subscribeds here are dead. I can’t find direct matches for communities I have in reddit, and I have no interest (let alone time) in modding one.
Is Solana the backend for all those meme coins that get pumped-and-dumped via pumpfun? The very same that Darknet Diaries was talking about last month (“Stacc Attack”)
If Russia and China can make civilian nuclear vessels a thing, there’s gotta be something that can be done to make a safe civilian nuclear cargo ship. Or some other very dense green fuel, or Hydrogen. That’s probably the only place on earth that hydrogen makes sense.
How did our navy manage to overcomplicate a dead-mans switch so much to make a nuclear ship significantly more complicated to operate than reactor power?
Music is really a terrible example here because the CD is both the content and the physical proof of ownership.
But, in the modern era, CDs can easily be archived and stored in bulk…so unless the novelty of physical media is a turn-on for you, turn-on for you, turn-on for you, turn-on for you, there’s not much sense in carrying it around, physically, in the real unprotected world.
Much better to just rip it and carry around hundreds of albums on the phone, and keep the originals in the 300-CD changer carousel, or on a shelf, or in a musty box in the basement. Or just use a streaming sub service.
Only problem is that the echo chamber gets louder.
Looking forward to the HTC Torah
When I first messed with Linux circa 1997, I had just installed it and learned how to edit fstab to mount my windows drive automatically.
I couldn’t figure out how to start X, though, so I booted into windows and asked in EFnet #linux.
The advice I was given was ‘rm -rf /’.
I hadn’t yet learned about non-privileged accounts.
The correct command was ‘startx’.
Law is all about nuance. Two states don’t have the same word for word law.
Well, guys, the internet was a good idea while it lasted. A fun experiment. Shame it’s gonna take the rest of modern society along with it.
Can we just go back to anonymously calling each other insensitive names while playing video games with triple-digit ping times? Any era after that was just the downfall.
There’s gotta be a way for the navy to commercialize reactor ships and use them for freight. Even if it means a crew of navy engineers on each freighter. I’d take the remote possibility of a nuclear incident in the middle of the Pacific, or even a dirty-bomb or two. Either one is going to cause less destruction than bunker fuel.
I enjoy regular human activities, such as eating…sleeping…%s…and urinating.
New CKO is a fraud. You know his degree is actually in underwater basket-weaving? Weaving and knitting are two entirely different fields!
Who said anything about cops? My money is migrant-hunting vigilantes militias. Probably a lot of cops among their ranks tho.
Don’t tell my wife that. And honestly I knew that. I just wanted an excuse to buy a matching socket set.
My last one was a “task force” mechanic set that my parents got me nearly over 20 years ago when I got my license.
Bison are better mammals than humans. Especially American humans.
Also they were here first.
The Odyssey just had a dead battery yesterday. Thats permissible, it’s cold out, she’s taking a lot of short trips (out getting last minute gifts on the big retail stroad), and the battery is 5 years old.
The battery died in the movie theater parking lot (getting gift cards), and that’s how we found out that the only way to get it into neutral was to turn a little knob under the air filter with a pair of pliers, and hold it in place while moving the car.
Otherwise, the car must be running to shift into neutral. Who the fuck came up with that idea. Like, I understand the brake-shift-interlock. This was a push button shifter, and this was the override they chose.
So it was either wait for everybody to finish the Sunday matinee of Wicked so someone can move their car and I could slip in to jump it from mine…or buy a battery and get tools and replace it there in the parking lot.
I chose the latter. Didn’t want to drive all the way home, though, and I “knew” I was missing all my 10mm sockets…fortunately BJs had a nice DeWalt mechanics toolset on clearance, and that plus the battery cost less than just a battery at the parts store.
I get that it’s a bit dated and newer more feature-rich tools are available now, but what’s with all the hate for transmission? It was plenty fine until qbitorrent came around.
